The Uruguayan striker today expressed his regret over the controversial incident at Old Trafford on Saturday and the Red Devils have accepted their Premier League rival's apology.
The Uruguayan striker has been heavily criticized for failing to shake the United captain's hand prior to kickoff and today issued an apology for letting his club down.

A statement on the FA’s official website read: “The Football Association can confirm that Fabio Capello has today resigned as England Manager.

“The discussions focused on The FA Board’s decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello’s response through an Italian broadcast interview.

“I would like to stress that during today’s meeting and throughout his time as England Manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner. We have accepted Fabio’s resignation, agreeing this is the right decision," he said.

“We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future.”

The 31-year-old was recently stripped of the England captaincy by the FA following the allegations, yet has since been cleared to play at Euro 2012 if selected, with his trial being adjourned until July 9. Umbro has confirmed the former England skipper is still to be sponsored by the sportswear giant, at least until his 4 million pound deal runs out in the summer, but he will not feature in any advertising campaigns pending the results of the trial.

Jack Wilshere has turned to technology in a bid to try and rescue his season.

The Arsenal midfielder has missed the entire campaign thus far due to injury and recently suffered a setback thanks to a further a stress fracture picked up in training.
